Career Awareness

The Northwest Technical Center provides comprehensive Career Awareness preparation for our students through what we call Employability Activities”.
These activities include:
  • development of a Resume
  • composition of Cover Letters
  • compilation of  a Portfolio
  • completion of applications
  • regular lab/shop experiences that mirror professional expectations of the work place
  • Interview Day: a day or two dedicated to mock interviews with Community professionals who “interview” our students and give feedback on their resumes and interviewing techniques. Many of our students have commented that this is one of the most powerful educational experiences of their high school experience.

Some other Career Awareness activities that our students participate in are:

  • the Franklin Region Career/Job Expo, one of the largest, well respected job fairs in the state. Students from all of the area high schools are invited to attend, network and submit their resumes for a competition. All Northwest Technical Center students attend as part of their class.
  • tours of businesses and professions that represent each of our eleven Northwest Technical Center Programs.
  • Future Success Forums that create awareness for our students as to what different options are available to them post high school.  Students meet and talk with representatives from local industry, Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC), the military, Department of Labor etc..
  • Adult Continuing Education Courses with no tuition charge, some of which carry college credit or lead to licensing or earning industry credentials.
