Specialty Modules (One Period Electives)

Open to 9th through 12th grade students, our specialty modules offer an extension of our regular programs and give students a chance to  explore some of the program options available at NWTC.  Please note that participation in a Specialty Module does not guarantee future placement in NWTC programs.

Introduction to Bakeshop

Students coming into this program will be exposed to various techniques and products associated with the pastry kitchen. Students will cover paste, dough, lamination, cakes, and many other confections. Fall

Clicks, Pics & Flicks Students will use cutting edge equipment and facilities to create digital content for print media, the web, and silver screen. Students will leave with a mini-portfolio containing evidence of their success in graphic design, digital photography, and digital video. Fall, Spring

Computer & Networking Learn client server operating systems, networking protocols, workstation management, building computers and hardware maintenance. Fall – Spring

Construction Trades Enrichment Open to all students enrolled in Building Trades I, II, and III.  This course will provide you with more hands on and on site experience. Fall, Spring

Construction Trades Foundations Students will be exposed to power tools and safety practices related to construction and will be able to identify the various employment opportunities in the construction field.  Areas to be introduced are masonry, ceramic tile, plumbing and heating, painting, weatherization, and many more. Culinary Classics:Introduction to Contemporary Cuisine This course will focus on the savory side of the kitchen. Cooking methods, knife skills, and basic fabrications are some of the few skills covered in this class. Students will learn about the five tastes and how their relationship affects the arrangement and composition of a dish. French technique as well as terminology will give insight to the history and future of this industry. Spring

Perspectives in Human Services Students will explore concepts in Human Services through the use of popular youth literature.  This model allows for the development of understandings of ethics, family and professional dilemmas, services available or unavailable (in rural areas), aspects of human development and other topics. Power Sports Equipment & Technology A hands on introduction to the maintenance and repair of four-stroke engines and a variety of power sports equipment. Students will develop the skills and confidence necessary for entry-level employment in dealerships and independent repair facilities. Fall, Spring

Rescue 911: Skills and Drills in Emergency Fields Most practiced skills and drills used in today’s Emergency situations.  Course will include CPR & First Aid Cert. through the American Red Cross. Fall, Spring
